It is rumoured that Premier League Newcastle United are ready to make Town's young goalkeeper Alex Smithies as a long-term replacement for Shay Given, who left for Manchester City in January.
The 19-year old has been watched by Spurs, Wigan and Newcastle in recent weeks, The Magpies sent first team coach Colin Calderwood to watch Smithies agaist MK Dons in midweek.
Of course Town boss Lee Clark has tied down Town's prized asset to a four-year deal last month and are rumoured to rate young Alex at around £3 million.
Spurs are also in the chase for the England U-19 goalkeeper, one of the coaches at Spurs is in the England U-19 setup and is hoping that might persuade Smithies to join them. |
