Colchester United 0-0 Huddersfield Town
The first game at the new Colchester Community Stadium (built on land called the cuckoo farm) ended in a goalless draw as Town battled and came away with a point.
Manager Stan Ternant was adamant that Town were denied a penalty late in the second half.
It came midway through the second half when Colchester defenders Matt Heath and Paul Reid were involved in a goalmouth scramble and the resulting in an Andy Booth shot at goal appearing to be handled.
The referee had told Ternant after the game that "the ball struck an arm and it was not intentional" but yet it stopped the ball from going into the net Mr Shoebridge, work that one out!

Town had made two changes from the 1-1 draw with Stockport County on the opening day of the season, Left back Robbie Williams and midfielder Jon Worthington impressed Ternant in the midweek win over Bradford in the Carling Cup and replaced David Unsworth and Michael Collins respectively.
Booth came back into the starting line up along side Danny Cadamarteri.

Andy Holdsworth might have given Town the lead after only 3 minutes, The Town right back fastened onto the ball ten yards out but from an angle flashed the ball wide.
5 minutes later Holdsworth let Colchester winger Tony Wordsworth get in a cross and striker Clive Platt managed to get inbetween Lucketti and Butler but his header was brilliantly saved by Matt Glennon with a one-handed stop.

Town's Gary Roberts then fired a free kick too close to United keeper Dean Gerken, Booth then shot over after giving Colchester defenders problems in the air and when Colchester enjoyed their best spell of the match, Lucketti blocked superbly after full back John White went on a run beating three Town players in the process.

Town threatened and continued to give Colchester problems, the lively Danny Cadamarteri shot wide after a flick on by Booth.
But Colchester put up a fight, the dangerous Colchester Mark Yeates, who could really play at a higher level, planted a free kick on top of the bar with Town keeper Glennon appearing to expect it to go high.

Town midfielders Worthington, Goodwin and Flynn had to work hard in the second half as United stepped up the pressure, Michael Flynn did well for a player who is playing out of position.
Worthington and Andy Booth both had shots blocked in the penalty area scramble but referee Rob Shoebridge waived away claims for a penalty after the ball appeared to strike an arm of a Colchester player.
Town continued to battle, Flynn had a deflected header that went wide after good work from Cadamarteri and Holdsworth.
Town's best move came in the last minute of the game, Cadamarteri, Worthington and Roberts were involved but when Roberts's low cross came in Booth was unable to produce a clinical finish.

Sean's Star Man - Andy Butler- Did well along side Lucketti, got in some strong tackles and won some crucial headers against Colchester's Clive Platt.
