Huddersfield Town ended 2013 in style in front of their own fans by smashing five goals past lowly Yeovil Town.Report - Huddersfield Town 5-1 Yeovil Town

The visitors took the lead through Ishmael Miller but Adam Clayton got the equalizer and then Martin Paterson and Joel Lynch but The Terriers 3-1 up by half time.

Danny Ward bagged a brace in the second 45 to cap a fine performance from the former Bolton Wanderers winger.

Ward remained in the side after James Vaughan was ruled out through injury; the team was the same XI that drew with Derby County on Boxing Day.

Ward failed to find the target in the first couple of minutes with a header and Paterson should have done better when he failed to connect from a clever low cross from Paul Dixon.

But despite the early Town pressure it was Yeovil who took the lead on 14 minutes when Town failed to clear Joel Grant's corner and from Liam Davis' flick, Miller pounced to fire the ball home.

It looked as though the visitors were sitting deep looking to hit Town on the counter after they took the lead but Adam Clayton got Town back on level terms on 23 minutes.

The midfielder timed his run to perfection to convert from close range from Ward's low cross.

Liam Davis found space to drive a low shot across the face of goal for Yeovil but The Terriers went in front on 40 minutes courtesy of Paterson's second goal in as many games.

Ward again was the architect with his low cut back from the left byline allowing Paterson to smash the ball into the net from around 10 yards out.

Just three minutes later Yeovil found themselves two behind when Adam Hammill's corner from the left was flicked into the net by defender Joel Lynch.

The visitors changed goalkeepers at half time when Marek Stech with Chris Dunn and they had chances to get back in the game but could not find the net.

Murry Wallace denied James Hayter a chance on goal and Davis squanded a great chance wide. Joel Ralls, on as a substitute, curled a well struck effort just wide and Miller turned his man to fire straight at Alex Smithies.

It was Ward who burst the Yeovil momentum bubble just after the hour when the winger cut in from the right and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the back of the net with his left foot.

Ward wasn't finished yet but his second goal had some good fortune when his 25 yard effort was dropped by Dunn and the ball squirmed under his body rolling into the net.

Town could have had more with the chances that were created and they head over to Burnley on New Year's Day in buoyant mood , as for Yeovil Town it doesn't look good for their chances of survival at this level.
