Gareth grew up in Rothwell with Leed's Alan Smith and the pair played together at school before moving on to Leeds United's Academy.
A left sided midfielder or defender, Gareth made a dream debut for Leeds when he came on as a substitute in the Champions League qualifier against 1860 Munich in the Olympic Stadium, a game United won thanks to a goal by his best mate Smithy. He followed his European baptism with a Premiership debut against Manchester City in September 2000.
Leeds through and through, his ambition was to establish himself as a regular in the United first team squad last season, but it wasn't to be, after all, he was fighting for the places of Harte and Kewell!
A loan spell with the Terriers during the pre-season, left Lou Macari in no doubt that this kid was the player for him.
Evans, who arrives at the McAlpine on a free transfer, joined his new teammates at Storthes Hall, straight after putting pen-to-paper on a 2-year contract, to get ready for Saturdays game against Bournemouth.
Ash's Comments
Gareth looks a good player from what ive seen of him so far, he looked comfy playing at left back on Tuesday night, and speaking to a Leeds supporter (someone has to!) last night, he had nothing but praise for the youngster. Being able to play at both left back and left midfield is a bonus for us as we've never really been strong down the left (remember Thornley?), so im hoping that he is going to do a good job for us and become a firm fixture in the team. Lets just hope that he doesn't turn out like the last lad from Leeds, no not Wijnhard, remember the lad called Jackson? Absolutely useless!! So, all I can say to Gareth is good luck, and hope you have a cracking season for us.
Overall Rating
8/10 (lets hope that this can rise to 10/10 soon)
