Gianfranco Labarthe Facts and Information
Huddersfield Town story posted by Garfield (Admin) on 11/11/2002
Last week Huddersfield Town signed an 18-year-old Peruvian midfielder/striker by the name of Alberto Gianfranco Tome Labarthe but, how much do you currently know about him? Probably not a lot so I figured I might as well do a bit of research to improve your knowledge on the South American player who's arriving at the McAlpine in January!
Labarthe, born on 20th September 1984 in Lima, played for Town during the summer and scored in the behind-closed-doors game against the US Olympics side; he's also played for Peru's Under 21s. He currently plays for the high-flying Peruvian team Sport Boys (Sports Boys) and was linked last season with Premiership outfit Tottenham Hotspur as well as Bayern Munich!
In Peru he is known to be "the next big thing" and has been voted as the best player in many local tournaments. His Dad, Ernesto Labarthe, was also a decent player and played for Peru against Argentina in the 1978 World Cup finals. The people of Peru feel that Gianfranco can guide their team to future World Cup finals!
Well, that's all I could find for now. Hopefully this fact-file will have come in use to you somehow and I hope you've enjoyed reading this! Now all you have to be worried about is whether or not he turns out to be the next Zico or the next Marcus Stewart! Let's hope it's the latter!
