Smith negotiations a load of Cobblers?

Huddersfield Town story posted by Garfield (Admin) on 13/06/2003
Rumours have been flying around lately that Town's out-of-contract talent, Martin Smith, has been snapped up on a free transfer by Division Three rivals Northampton Town. Terry Fisher, however, claims that he is still negotiating a deal with Smith at his home in Spain.Smith negotiations a load of Cobblers?

Player of the season Smith has been offered a two year deal by Town's prospective owners, and Terry Fisher, a man heavily involved in sorting Huddersfield Town's financial crisis out, has been discussing the benefits of playing for the terriers to try and get Smithy to sign a new deal with the club.

"I met with Martin in Spain," said Fisher, "He then explained he was going to keep his options open and his agents have been very helpful to us."

"We know other clubs are interested in him, but we are hopeful he will stay with us," continued Fisher.

There has been intense speculation as of late that Northampton had signed a mystery striker, believed to be Smith. Surely this can't be the case though considering Smith could easily play for a Second or First Division club if he wanted to.

It's probably just a load of Cobblers... no pun intended!
