Jackson signs Jon Newby and Rob Edwards!
Huddersfield Town story posted by Garfield (Admin) on 03/07/2003
Bury striker Jon Newby and ex-Town man Rob Edwards were confirmed as Peter Jackson's first two signings earlier on today. Both of these men, in my view, are excellent signings who have plenty of experience between them.
Jon Newby started out his career at Liverpool. He featured alongside Michael Owen in the club's 1996 FA Youth Cup triumph and then progressed to the reds' first team squad in which he was a backup player finishing top scorer in the reserves in their Championship winning season. Further on in his Liverpool career he had loan spells at Crewe Alexandra, Sheffield United and the club which he was transferred to, Bury. He finished last season as the Shakers' top scorer.
Town's new manager had this to say about new boy Newby who will start training today.
"He's an impressive striker and he's what I have been looking for. He signed a two year deal and will join training with us today," explained Peter. "We need someone who is going to come in ansd score between 25 and 30 goals a season and Jon is well capable of doing that. He's got lots of skill and plenty of pace to get in behind defenders," continued Jackson.
Rob Edwards, as most of you will probably know, is an ex Town player. He played 128 games for the terriers before moving to Chesterfield in September 2000. He has signed a 12 month deal at the club. He, to me, seems like Jackson's first signing who truly is blue and white through and through.
Earlier on today Peter Jackson spoke about his new signing Edwards.
"I think a lot of Rob as both a player and a person. He's a versatile player, being able to play anywhere down the left from striker to left back and you can guarantee he will give you 110% every time. It's great to have him back."
All in all I'm impressed by Jackson's latest signings. The appointment of Andrew Watson as CEO yesterday was also an impressive catch on his part.
Keep it up Jacko!
