The Terriers trial Booty, Hughes and Eves
Huddersfield Town story posted by Garfield (Admin) on 07/07/2003
Chesterfield centre-half Martyn Booty, Blackpool defender Ian Hughes and Burnley centre-half Liam Eves were given trials with Huddersfield Town today. All three of them will start training with the squad immediately.
Booty, 32, was a regular for the Spireites last season and was named the captain for the majority of the season. He started out as a trainee at Coventry before breaking into the side at Crewe where he made over 100 appearances under Dario Gradi. From Crewe he moved to Reading in a ?75,000 move, then on to Southend United. He's been with Chesterfield for two seasons now.
The second trialist, Hughes, 28, has played for Bury and Blackpool. He started out at Bury before making a move to the Seasiders in 1997 for ?200,000. He made 169 appearance in his six year spell at Blackpool. Hughes has also represented his country, Wales, at youth and under-21 level.
The third trialist is 19-year-old Liam Eves. The young centre-half captained the Burnley reserves side throughout the whole of the last campaign but has still not made his league debut. He's looked at as an exciting prospect for the future by many people.
So, with Adie Moses stalling on contract talks maybe one of these trailists is a replacement for Town's ever-present defender of last season? I'm sure we'll find out in the next few days.
