Carss pips Fowler for Torquay Man of the Match

Huddersfield Town story posted by Garfield (Admin) on 13/10/2003
After scoring one of the best goals you'll ever see at the McAlpine Stadium on Saturday, it comes as no surprise that Tony Carss has won the Terrier-Bytes Man of the Match for the game against Torquay United. Lee Fowler, one of Town's most influential players against the the Gulls, came second in the vote and shot to the top of the Man of the Match League. Nathan Clarke came in third.Carss pips Fowler for Torquay Man of the Match

Carss' scissor-kick volley to clinch victory for the Terriers was no doubt the main reason he won the latest Man of the Match vote. However, having said that, he did play great throughout, as usual. In my opinion, he's been our most consistent player over the course of this season so far. He fully deserves his 'Duracell' nickname as his work rate is phenomenal.

Fowler, Town's menace in midfield, picked up three points for coming second in the vote and is now top of the table with a total of eight points, one ahead of Andy Booth who's in second place. The Welsh Wizard created and defended superbly throughout the game - he definitely looks too good for the Third Division.

Clarke has played two full games this season for Town and has gained Man of the Match points in each of them. In last week's game against Southend United he gained three points for finishing second in the vote and this week he's gained one point for finishing third in the vote. Peter Jackson said this week that Nathan is the first player on his team sheet and now we can all see why. Keep it up Clarkey!

So far, since the Man of the Match League started on the 27th Spetember, there has been a new Man of the Match for every game. Lee Fowler, Tony Carss, Andy Booth and Jon Stead have all won the vote. Also, seven different players have gained points in the league. Basically, this just sums up how great Town have played in the last few weeks.
