Terriers v Wrexham
Huddersfield Town story posted by Peter MacGibbon on 26/11/2004
Wrexham have been having an extremely hard time recently. The club was on the brink of extinction ten days ago, (something we know all about!), and on the field they have been plagued with injuries. They haven?t won a game for six matches.
They are currently 18th in the league table , compared with our 11th, but recent form, over the last eight games, has them 21st with us in 9th place. They lost to Torquay, 1-0, during the week.
Despite this apparently dismal record all is not as it might seem; they have been having a lot of the play in their recent matches but failing to find the back of the net. Their new Basque striker, Juan Ugarte, made his debut against Torquay. Although he didn?t score he seems to have been a live wire and could well test our defence.
Our squad for this match is only light of the Sodje brothers and Ian Gray whereas they have eight players missing; Stephen Roberts joined the injury list this week. They hope, however, to register defender Scott Green today. He left them at the end of last season and went to Telford United who, of course, have now folded. He re-signed for Wrexham earlier this week. Even though he is 34 he probably can play a good role for them.
The last time we played them at home in the league was 2001/2 season; we won 5-1! We have actually won 7 of the last 8 meeting in Huddersfield. More recently we have played them in the LDV, both 2002/3 and 2003/4, away both times. Honours even! Won one, lost one.
The bookies have us at odds-on but with their backs to the wall it might not be as easy as it might seem!
