Reds v Terriers
Huddersfield Town story posted by Peter MacGibbon on 13/01/2005
In 2002-3 we did the double over Barnsley, 1-0 both home and away, but it didn?t help, we were relegated at the end of the season! We played them at the Galpharm back in September and they won 2-0 so they will be looking to do the double over us.
That September match was one that Efe Sodje will want to forget. A sloppy backpass nearly let Barnsley in then Barry Conlon beat him fair and square and went on to score. The final straw for Efe was a straight red card in injury time! To cap it all The Reds second goal was an own goal from David Mirfin . Surely the match at Oakwell must be better?
When the home match was played we were 9th in the table, three points ahead of the Tykes in 18th place. This time round they are one place and one point behind us but with a game in hand.
The Tykes have played eight league games without defeat, winning four and drawing four, and look the form side. We have won only one of our last eight league games and lost three!
Mendes, Abbott and Andy Booth should all be available for us; Junior and Andy had a run out with the reserves mid-week. In that match Adnan Ahmed apparently had a great game and must have impressed Jacko. Rob Edwards also proved his fitness and maybe he will return at left back.
For Barnsley, Barry Conlon has a groin strain and may miss Saturday?s match but don?t count on it! Loan striker, Daniel Nardiello, is almost certainly out and first choice keeper Nick Colgan only returned from injury to play against the Owls reserves yesterday.
Everything seems to be against us, formwise, but the possible return of talisman Andy Booth has to be in our favour and maybe we can make it a game of two first halves since it seems to be the second half we fall apart!
