Town have signed Sheffield United?s Luke Beckett on a month?s loan from the Championship side.Profile- Luke Beckett
Luke Beckett has a prolific goalscoring record with Chester City, Chesterfield and Stockport County.

Beckett began his football career at Barnsley and earned a professional contract in 1995 after coming through the ranks at Oakwell. Despite three years at the South Yorkshire club he failed to make an impact and move on to Chester City on a free transfer and his football league debut was in August 1998 with a 2-0 loss at home to Leyton Orient.

Beckett scored 13 goals in 29 appearances in his first season for Chester followed by 19 goals in the following season but Chester City were relegated out of the football league. At his time at Chester City Luke scored 32 goals in 79 appearances (4 as a sub) in all competitions.

Beckett caught the eye of Chesterfield and they made a move for their man in the summer of 2000. The fee was set by tribunal at ?150,000. This transfer tribunal was one of a number of irregularities that lead to an Football Association investigation of the previous regime at Chesterfield and a points deduction. Despite the loss points Chesterfield won promotion from the old Division Three (now league two) with Beckett contributing 16 league goals in his first season. He has notched 6 goals in the old Division Two before Stockport?s bid of ?100,000 in December 2001 was accepted by Chestefield. Beckett scored 26 goals in 65 appearances including 4 as a sub in all competitions at his time at Saltergate.

By the end of the 2001/2002 season Beckett finished top scorer at County with 7 goals but in the 2002/2003 season is where Beckett took off at Edgeley Park, County described him as ? a strong runner who makes the defenders earn their money by keeping them under pressure so he can pounce on any mistakes?. Beckett Luke proved during the 2002-03 season that previous scoring feats in Division Two were no fluke.
Beckett banged in 27 league goals despite County?s lowly position in the 2002/2003 season but for the last month of that season Beckett was struck down with injury.

Beckett had a slow start to the 2003/2004 season but had started to hit form when another injury lead to serious cruciate ligament damage. After a few operations and a long rehabillitation to get back to match fitness that saw him back in action just before the end of that season.

At the start of this season his home town club Sheffield Wednesday were linked with bringing Luke to Hillsborough and Hull City were linked with Beckett just before Sheffield United signed him. Beckett scored 7 goals this season in 14 appearances for Stockport County before his ?50,000 move to Sheffield United 2 months ago. Luke Beckett is well like by the Stockport County fans and will be sorely missed. In 84 appearances for County Beckett clocked up 46 goals in all competitions. Taking his career total to 105 goals in 228 appearances.
