Shrimpers v Terriers
Huddersfield Town story posted by Peter MacGibbon on 19/08/2005
Last week we took care of a promoted club and this week we take on the League Two Playoff Winners, Southend. Their record this season is a win, a draw and a defeat, 4 points from their first three games. With 6pts from three games we have made our best start since 1994.
The omens are good! The last time we played Southend at Roots Hall was on 4th October 2003. We won 2-1 with goals from Booth and Schofield and it was our first away win of the season.
The Shrimpers have already lost at home, beaten by Port Vale in their first game of the season. Their captain, Kevin Maher, admitted that the increased pace of the game, in this division, caught them on the hop! He has been on the easy list with a knee tendon problem but hopes to be back to face us. Midfielders Bentley and Cole returned to training this week and veteran defender Spencer Prior could be back from a calf strain. Andy Edwards, who had been deputising for Prior picked up a groin strain but could also be back. New signing Shaun Goater scored his 250th career goal recently. With Eastwood in form as well they can be potent up front.
We will be without Mirfin and Ahmed and possibly Andy Booth. The good news is that Nathan Clarke is fit again. Andy Holdsworth will continue filling the right back berth. Let?s hope that neither Hudson nor Worthington trouble the referee this week!
I think we should be able to win this but a lot will depend on our defence keeping their strikers quiet.
