Off we go to Saltergate on Wednesday night to play Chesterfield in the Carling Cup. The match will be played to a finish, extra time and penalty shoot-out on the night, if necessary. (Remember that the Prediction League is settled on the 90 minute score)
With our appalling Cup record, and remembering that we lost there 2-1 on March 12th, the last game we lost last season, ninety minutes will probably be enough! Efe and Tom Clarke were both sent off in that game, Nicholson scored two penalties. Mark Hudson played against us that day and lasted the ninety minutes without a booking! Let?s hope he can do the same on Wednesday! Pavel Abbott spent the first hour on the bench that game, I rather think he will start this week.
Chesterfield have made a bad start to the season. They have conceded 9 goals and suffered two home defeats. They were thrashed by Oldham, 4-1, at Boundary Park, last Saturday. To be fair they have sustained more than their fare share of injuries. Alex Bailey, Gareth Davies and Aaron Downes are all injured. Additionally Saltergate was out-of-bounds for some time following a mumps epidemic which affected four of their apprentices!
For the Terriers, Andy Booth and David Mirfin are still out as is Adnam Ahmed although he will be back in training by the end of the week. Nat Clarke and Jon Worthington got knocks on Saturday but are both recovered and will travel to Chesterfield.
On paper we should have a good chance of winning but, looking at last season?s cup results, fingers crossed!
