Blackburn Rovers v Huddersfield Town

Premiership v League One. No contest, surely? Well firstly this is a cup game so anything can happen, secondly if you look at our respective positions in the tables we are both converging on the Championship for next year so it could be closer than you think. If Andy Holdsworth can spin his magic and get one, or all, of Blackburn?s danger men Red Carded so much the better!
We have no new injury worries but unfortunately Dave Mirfin has had a setback after starting some ball work. Before the season we were surprised when Jacko signed another centre back. Just as well he did! With Mirfin and Tosh still sidelined and Tom Clarke suspended, it will be up to John McCombe to repel the threat of Savage and Bellamy alongside Nathan Clarke. It will be interesting to see who starts up-front with Pav on Wednesday although it seems pretty certain that both Andy Booth and Gary Taylor-Fletcher will be on the pitch at some time during the game.
For Rovers Vratislav Gresko will probably continue at left back in place of the injured Dominic Matteo although he was substituted late on yesterday. Zurab Khizanishvili, on loan from Rangers, will probably keep his place after making his home debut on Sunday. Wow! Don?t these players have some great names!
Mark Hughes is adamant: "We are very, very interested in the Carling Cup." He says he will pick a strong squad for tomorrow's tie at home to Town, adding: "We want to progress in the competition, we came unstuck last year in my second game in charge and we don't want that to happen again? Third from the bottom of the Premiership, no goals for four games, falling attendances. Rovers certainly have their problems.
I think the key to the game will be our defence managing to close down Savage and Bellamy, and maybe Paul Dickov who possibly will be back in the squad. They haven?t met anyone like this trio this season, if ever. A great deal of responsibility for our youngsters and second strings.
Up front we can be encouraged by the fact that our strikers are on form. Newcastle had three shots on target Sunday and all of them beat Brad Friedel.
The match will be settled on the night. A win would be great but to be on level terms at 90 minutes would be an achievement to be proud of. Remember that the prediction League is on the 90 minute score.
