Yeovil Town 1 - 2 Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town story posted by Neil Armstead on 14/11/2005
Town made the long journey back to Yorkshire on Saturday with another three points in the bag and one place further up the table following a hard-fought 2-1 victory against a solid Yeovil side. Andy Booth opened the scoring in the first half, with the impressive Mark Hudson doubling the lead. After the break Yeolil piled the pressure on Town and after snatching one goal back through Johnson would have got back into the game had it not been for giant performances at the back. Unfortunately, Hudson will now miss next week's huge local derby against Bradford after being dismissed in second half injury-time.Yeovil Town 1 - 2 Huddersfield Town

Town lined-up with all three first-team strikers on the pitch, with Gary Taylor-Fletcher replacing the injured Chris Brandon and playing in the right midfield role.

Town's first opportunity came after only two minutes of play. An Abbott header found it's way to Andy Booth who fired a volley just wide of the right-hand post. Yeovil looked to retaliate through Argentinian Marco Bastianini, who latched onto a through ball and attempted a deft chip over Paul Rachubka, who caught with ease. The fast-paced start to the game continued and after further pressure from Town, Andy Booth gave the travelling fans something to cheer when his shot put the visitors ahead. Slick interplay on the right wing saw Taylor-Fletcher slip a through ball to the onrushing Danny Schofield. Yeovil captain Skiverton did well to stop Schofield, but in the process the ball ran into the path of Booth who made no mistake from 10 yards.

Town seized the initiative, and Pawel Abbott came close with a spectacular overhead kick following a hopeful ball from the Town back line. Yeovil began to get back into the game, and after 22 minutes Bastianini's low shot from the edge of the area bounced back off Rachubka's right hand post and, only seconds later, striker Harold came equally close when he smashed the ball against the crossbar from a similar distance.

It was then Town's turn to rattle the woodwork. Schofield collected the ball from a short corner and floated a cross to the back post where Booth was waiting. Just as the Town fans thought the goal was inevitable, Booth's powerful headed crashed back off the bar. After Yeovil's Skiverton had missed an easy chance from only 6 yards out, Town would double their lead through midfielder Mark Hudson. Both Abbott and Schofield had shots blocked in a goal mouth scramble, before Hudson took control and placed the ball home.

Surely Town wouldn't do that thing they normally do when leading by 2-0 at the break......?

Of course they would, within only two minutes of the restart Johnson pulled a goal back for Yeovil, heading in a cross from half-time substitute Gall. The game became a little more scrappy for the next ten minutes, until after 58 minutes Andy Booth nearly restored Town's two goal lead. An Andy Holdsworth cross found the Town frontman who could only direct his header directly at the Yeovil keeper, who looked somewhat relieved.

The game became more open and Bastianini would waste a chance before Schofield would do the same at the other end. With the game entering the last quarter of an hour tensions began to rise and the bookings were flooding in for Town players. However, for all the pressure they were putting Town under, Yeovil could not find a way through Town's sturdy defence.

Only seconds before the final whistle Mark Hudson was dismissed for a second bookable offence and will now serve a one match ban
