Huddersfield Town 2 - 0 Colchester United
Huddersfield Town story posted by Neil Armstead on 13/02/2006
I crucial 3 points was won by the Terriers against high flying Colchester United on Saturday afternoon, with a goal each for skipper Jon Worthington and loanee David Graham, who notched his third goal in as many games. The win keeps Town on course for an resurgence toward automatic promotion, with another two crucial games up ahead this week.
Micheal Collins retained his place in the centre of midfield, with Gary Taylor-Fletcher wide on the right and Brandon on the opposite flank. Holdsworth and Adams both missed the game, with Mirfin and Smith stepping in respectively. Andy Booth kept his place up front alongside Graham, with Abbott on the bench.
Colchester started on top, with their first attempt coming through dangerman Chris Iwelumo. Iwelumo collected a poor clearance and smashed a low drive which cannoned off the outside of Senior's right hand post. After 10 minutes Town forced their first opportunity, when a cross from the right allowd Graham to head towards the run of Nat Clarke, who was inches away from connecting.
Within a minute, Colchester had the ball in the back of Town's net. Attacker Garcia connected well with a first time volley which flew past the outstretched Senior onto the post. The ball rebounded back into the area where Iwelumo slotted the ball into the unguarded net. Unfortunately for Iwelumo, he was adjudged to have been offside when Garcia struck the original effort.
On 14 minutes Town were handed a huge stroke of luck, slightly against the run of play. After some neat passing, the ball fell to Taylor-Fletcher who's 20 yard drive took a late deflection off midfielder Worthington, and swerved into the opposite corner of the goal leaving the keeper with no chance. Moments later, Chris Brandon was unlucky not to double Town's lead after failing to get any real connection on a through ball from Taylor-Fletcher.
Colchester were in no mood to let Town boss the game, and following a stunning last ditch tackle from Worthingto to foil Neil Danns from six yards, United had the ball in Town's net for a second time. It was Neil Danns causing the problems again, only to see his effort disallowed. Colchester had the upper hand, and Senior was called into action is style, making a near post save from Garcia's powerful effort on 25 minutes.
Following three more chances for Mark Yeates for Colchester, the third of which a golden chance from just inside the area, Town were unlucky not to go in two goals to the good when Chris Brandon placed a low drive just the wrong side of the far post after running onto Andy Booth's flick on.

on 50 minutes the visitors found themselves a man down, with Gary Richards the guilty party, dismissed for felling David Graham as he burst towards the area.
Town seized the initiative, and following some trickery from Taylor-Fletcher won a throw-in from the right. David Graham did well to leap and connect, but his header was straight at the chest of goalkeeper Aidan Davison. After 56 minutes Greg Halford collected an Iwelumo pass and fired an effort straight into the arms of a grateful Phil Senior.
On the hour mark Town nearly doubled their lead, with David Graham continuing his run of form, trying an ambitious wide angled shot which hit the side netting. The striker didn't have to wait much longer to get his goal, when on 68 minutes he raced onto a Booth headed flick. Graham carried the ball into the area and slotted neatly into the bottom right corner of the goal with his left foot.
Worthington proved to be the hero again in the dying minutes, blocking a close range effort from Greg Halford on the line.
