Cardiff City 1 v 2 Huddersfield Town
Huddersfield Town story posted by Garfield (Admin) on 22/09/2001
Town went up to 6th place in Division Two following strikes by Danny Schofield and Dwayne Mattis in todays 2-1 win at Ninian Park. Macari fielded the same team that was defeated against Wigan last Tuesday although he did change the formation to a 4-4-2.
The match started out with Cardiff putting on all the pressure testing Margetson quite a lot, the first real attempt from them was in the third minute with Paul Brayson's looping header on goal. Five minutes later they had scored, Peter Thorne was the scorer with a simple headed goal which just slipped past Margetsons outstreched hand.
Shortly after Cardiff scored Town were desperate to get an equaliser, Chris Holland and Schofield both tried their luck for Town with distant shots, but that equaliser came a few minutes later in the 17th minute, the scorer was young player Dwayne Mattis. The goal was setup by Danny Schofield and Mattis slipped the ball in the net from 15 yard left footed shot.
In the second half Town pushed Cardiff a bit harder and in the 56th minute Schofield got a second goal for HTAFC with a fierce volley from a Thorrington corner. This goal killed the match for Cardiff and Town were on the way to their first win since Wycombe a few matches ago.
City tried getting back into the game with a fair few shots from Kavanagh and Simpkins but it was simply not good enough has Town rared on to victory.
