Lucketti & Booth - ?2m bid
Huddersfield Town story posted by Garfield (Admin) on 09/08/2001
Huddersfield Town's two top players Andy Booth and Chris Lucketti might sign for Cardiff City in a double deal thought to be worth ?2m.
Lucketti and Booth, who played for Spurs in the Premiership last season, are set to sign for the Bluebirds in time for their second Nationwide League match of the season, against Peterborough United tomorrow week.
The clubs have agreed the fees, thought to be ?1m-plus for central defender Lucketti ? City?s second million pound signing and a new club record - and just under that sum for Booth.
Town paid Bury ?750,000 only two years ago for 29-year-old Lucketti and he has become a key figure in their defence, while Booth has Premiership experience.
Booth joined Spurs on loan from Sheffield Wednesday last season and later moved back to Town, and everyone thought he would be loyal to the club.
Manager Lou Macari is fuming that Huddersfield chairman Barry Rubery and director of football Trevor Cherry are prepared to sell his two key players.
Macari was not told anything about the deal until the last minute, all the negotiations having gone through Rubery and Cherry.
Rubery, it seems, is keen to cut Huddersfield's debt as he tries to sell the club.
Macari blasted Cardiff, accusing them of an illegal approach and saying: "I am reporting Cardiff City and their manager Alan Cork to the Football League.
"Never in my time in management has this happened to me."
Cardiff's Hammam, though, acted properly by conducting the deals through Rubery and Cherry.
Cardiff Manager Cork hopes to have both signings in his squad by early next week as he strengthens his squad to 36 players.
