Preview - Town Vs Southend United
Huddersfield Town story posted by Sean Makin on 08/08/2009
The football season is back! And Huddersfield Town travel to Southend United for their first league game of the season.
As the Town faithful travel down to Roots Hall, the chairman Dean Hoyle, Town legend Andy Booth and others have cycled to Southend from Huddersfield to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (which sponsor our home shirts this season)
The Town squad headed to Southend on Friday with only midfielder Jim Goodwin missing through injury, manager Lee Clark could give any of 7 new signings their debuts, former Southend favourite Peter Clarke should be set to be given his debut against his former club, former Shrimpers loanee Theo Robinson will be pushing for a start along with the other new signings of Lee Novak, Lee Peltier, Robbie Simpson and Jordan Rhodes.
While the FourFourTwo magazine has tipped Town to finish 7th in the league, the Terrier-Bytes League One questionnaire, fans of 22 clubs in League One took part, and out of those 22, 15 had tipped Town to be there or there abouts this season (2 to be the champions, 3 to be runners-up and 10 to be in the play-offs) no doubt Lee Clark will be thriving on the pressure.
For Southend, the loan duo from Colchester Matt Heath and Jamie White should go straight into the starting 11, Adam Barrett should be fit to play but there is doubt whether he will be in the starting line-up.
Lee Sawyer, on loan from Chelsea, is ruled out through injury, so too is Damien Scannell and Osei Sankofa.
On loan Jean-Yves M'voto should be in that starting line-up in place of Barrett if Barrett is seemed unfit to play.
Sean's Prediction I'm going to go for a 2-1 win to Town with Theo Robinson and Gary Roberts to score. Town will go 1-0 up before Southend equalize then I see Town snatching the winner.
