Southampton 5-0 Huddersfield Town - Brief Report Town manager Lee Clark was "angry and embarrassed" as a long trip down to Southampton's St.Mary's Stadium on a Tuesday night turned into a horror show.

The Saints had only just nicely put five past Walsall three days earlier at St.Mary's and were unstoppable again as Town recieved a good hammering by Alan Pardew's men.

Town had gone 11 games unbeaten but the Saints near as damn it ended that run scoring three goals within the first 34 minutes.

One change was made from the 2-2 draw with L**ds on Saturday, the injured Lee Peltier was replaced by Tom Clarke.

The Saints were in front inside 16 minutes, former Town target Rickie Lambert, who looks a £1million-bargain, noticed his 27th goal of the season, heading home from a Jason Puncheon cross.

Lee Barnard put the Saints 2-0 up on 24 minutes, the former Southend player has a habit of scoring past the Terriers, looped a header over Alex Smithies in the Town goal.

The inspirational winger Jason Puncheon got himself on the scoresheet with a 20-yard drive with 34 minutes gone.

Two of the Saints goals came down the left side so Austrailan left-back Dean Heffernan, who had a nightmare, was pulled off at half-time and replaced by Krystian Pearce, given his first run out since arriving from Birmingham City in January.

The spanking continued in the second half, Dean Hammond connected to a Puncheon corner to make it 4-0 then late on substitute Papa Waigo skinned Peter Clarke and rounded Smithies to slide the ball in the net to make it 5-0.

If it wasn't for Smithies the horror show might have been an awful lot worse.

Sean's Star Man - Alex Smithies
If it wasn't for the Town goalkeeper it could be 7 or 8 or even more. No other Town player deserves credit.
