Travelling by train to the play off final

A local train company is providing Huddersfield Town fans with some crucial travel information ahead of the upcoming play off final against Peterborough at Old Trafford.

First TransPennine Express (FTPE), which manages Huddersfield Railway Station and operates services to and from Manchester is anticipating large numbers of 'Terrier' fans to travel to the huge end of season finale.

Huddersfield Town, who finished third in the N-Power League One and beat Bournemouth in the divisional play offs have sold over 30,000 tickets for the showcase on Sunday 29th May.

Large numbers are expected to follow the terriers by train and FTPE are advising that services leaving Huddersfield and returning from Manchester Piccadilly will be extremely busy.

FTPE operates 3 trains an hour between Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly, leaving at 01, 17 and 28 minutes past the hour. Journey times to Manchester Piccadilly are approximately 35 minutes.

Edith Rodgers, FTPE's Customer Services Director commented on the travel plans;
"We are delighted that Huddersfield Town have qualified for the play off final and we wish them the very best of luck on Sunday."

"FTPE trains between Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly are likely to be very busy and we would encourage fans to travel as early as possible to ensure they are not disappointed."

"We are making every effort to make extra carriages available and we want to carry as many fans as possible but we only have a limited number of trains available to us. We would ask for fans to understand this and be patient with us."

Where possible, FTPE will try to provide additional services and lengthened trains throughout Sunday 29th May and Northern Rail will also be operating services from Huddersfield to Manchester Victoria, where customers can connect onto the Manchester Metrolink for journeys to Old Trafford.

FTPE will providing additional staff and managers at Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly to assist fans with their travel plans.

British Transport Police (BTP) will also be in attendance at the stations and will be traveling on certain services to ensure everyone is kept safe and enjoys their day and trip to the Theatre of Dreams.

Access to Huddersfield station and train services for football bound passengers will be controlled by a queuing system, which will be operated on a first come first served basis. Reservations are no longer available although those already booked will be honoured where possible.

John Stubbs, Football Intelegence Officer from British Transport Police said;
"Sunday promises to be a great day of football for Huddersfield fans and our officers will be helping everyone to enjoy it, as well as ensuring fans travel to and from the game safely."

"The trains have a limited capacity and we are advising fans to travel early and utilise the services throughout the day."

"There will also be additional BTP officers in attendance to assist fans, passengers and railway staff and we would encourage everyone to travel in a respectful and appropriate manner."

Returning from Manchester is also likely to be busy and FTPE are once again advising customers to stagger their return journeys wherever possible. Three trains an hour will leave Manchester Piccadilly towards Huddersfield, departing at 02, 11 and 42 minutes past. Queuing and boarding systems will also be in operation.
