Queens Park Rangers 3 v 2 Huddersfield Town
Huddersfield Town story posted by Garfield (Admin) on 07/10/2001
Town could have moved in to 1st place if results went the right way, instead HTAFC dropped to 7th place following today's miserable defeat at the hands of Queens Park Rangers. The team line-up was basically the same as usual apart from Chris Hay who replaced the suspended Danny Schofield up-front and partnered Andy Booth for the first time since early August.
Town started out pretty lively and nearly scored from a Thorrington sprint down the right wing but the cross was denied by Terrell Forbes. On 12 minutes Gareth Evans collided with Kevin Gray. Evans was able to carry on playing after wrapping up his wound with a bandage.
A minute later Queens Park Rangers took the lead with Andy Thomson scoring from a right foot past Margetson's outstreched hand. Town started to battle for an equaliser and it finally came in the 32nd minute, Chris Hay was the scorer.
Irons swung the ball in for Booth to meet deep inside the area after Town had won a right-wing free-kick, and Hay stabbed home the striker?s looping header towards the back post from close range after shrugging off Forbes to get into the six-yard area.
From now until half-time Town battled to take the lead and came close on numerous occasions.
The second half kicked off with QPR winning most of the possesion. The home side had a fair few shots on goal and scored in the 56th minute through Matthew Rose. Rose unleashed an unstoppable shot past the hopeless Margetson's despairing dive.
QPR started to dominate the game and scored yet again in the 61st minute through Steve Palmer with a simple tap-in past Margetson.
Town were now looking very nervy and QPR kept on piling on the pressure until the last few minutes of extra time when QPR winger/striker Aziz Ben Askar slid the ball in to his own net from Simon Baldry's low cross.
The score was now 3-2 to QPR with only a minute or two of extra time left, Town started to fight back with Thorrington flying down the wing and Boothy doing all he could to get that equaliser but it never came. Town had left it to late and QPR picked up the full three points.
