It was announced yesterday that Huddersfield Town have paid a record fee for Bradford City striker Nahki Wells.Town Sign Bradford City Striker Nahki Wells

The 23-year old striker has signed a four-and-a-half contract with the Terriers but the deal had to include a one-day loan so that Wells can make his debut against Millwall at the John Smith's Stadium this afternoon.

The fee Town have reportedly paid for Wells is £1.3 million which breaks the previous highest of £1.2m which was paid for the legend Marcus Stewart in 1996.

Wells has scored 15 goals for The Bantams this season in all competitions which takes his tally to 53 goals since joining City in 2011.

It was reported that the striker was not willing to extend his contract with City, which ran until the end of next season, so The Bantams have decided to cash in on their prized asset.

A number of clubs were interested in the 23-year old. The likes of Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Aston Villa and Wolves were linked with the striker with Bradford turning down a bid last summer from Peterborough United.

Born in Bermuda, Wells started his career with Dandy Town Hornets and Bermuda Hogges before moving to England in 2010 to attend a football academy in Leeds.

Whilst at the academy he caught of the eye Eccleshill United in the Northern Counties East League before winning a short-term deal at Carlisle United.

The Cumbrian side let Wells leave on a free after making just three appearances, he then joined Bradford City in the summer of 2011 and became an instant hit.

Wells hit 12 goals in his first season before finding the net 26 times during the 2012/13 season as Bradford reached the League Cup final and won promotion from League Two via the play-offs.
