The Canadian International, who has been capped 26 times, will wear the number two shirt for the rest of the campaign.

The 27-year-old, who can play at centre back, full back or in midfield, has featured 19 times this season for Birmingham having joined the Blues on a free transfer last summer.

Edgar started his career at Newcastle United, making 23 appearances in four years at the club, before joining Burnley for £300,000 in the summer of 2009.

He made 114 appearances for the Clarets in five seasons at Turf Moor but was released by the club following their promotion to the Premier League.

The versatile defender could be in line to make his debut against Wigan Athletic on Saturday but will not feature against his parent club when the two sides meet at St. Andrew's in March.
