Report - Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Huddersfield Town
Huddersfield Town story posted by Sean Makin on 05/04/2015
Ishmael Miller rescued a point for Huddersfield Town with a late strike in the Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
It was largely an uneventful match until five minutes before the end with two goals in the last five minutes.
Wednesday thought they had won it when substitute Sergiu Bus scrambled the ball home from Marnick Vermijl's cross.
But with the clock about to hit 90 minutes Miller latched on to a knock-down from James Vaughan to fire the ball into the back of the net to rescue a point for the Terriers.
Whilst the draw sees Town nine points clear of the relegation places, it now means they are without a win in seven.
Chris Powell made two changes which saw a debut for on-loan Manchester United left-back Reece James replacing the injured Jonathan Hogg. James Vaughan was back from suspension and started ahead of Miller, who was on the bench.
The first real opening fell to Wednesday striker Caolan Lavery on 18 minutes but his volley flew over the bar after running on to Atdhe Nuhiu's ball over the top.
Owls midfielder Lewis McGugan fired wide from the edge of the area while at the other end Joel Lynch forced Keiran Westwood into a save with a shot on the turn.
As the half drew to a close, Town had the best chance of the half to take the lead but Vermijl blocked David Edgar's shot on the line from a James corner.
Wednesday upped the tempo after the break and nearly went in front on 50 minutes when Nuhiu rounded Town goalkeeper Alex Smithies only to see his effort cleared off the line by Lynch.
Lavery hit a shot wide and sub Bus saw his effort saved by Smithies.
Town hit Wednesday on the counter but Miller decided to shoot instead of playing in Vaughan who was in a better position.
As the match looked to be heading to another goalless draw between the two, the home side took the lead on 86 minutes when Bus scrambled the ball into the net from close range.
But Wednesday could not hold onto the win when three minutes later Miller hit a late equaliser after finding space inside the area.
